William Davel Carter, lovingly known to many as “Chilly,” passed away on August 22, 2025, in Evansville, Indiana, at the age of 51. He was born on October 4, 1973, in Owensboro, Kentucky, to the late Sandra D. Lewis and Lawrence W. Carter.

He last worked at the Roca Bar as a cook, where his dedication and welcoming personality touched many lives. Beyond work, William had a gift for hands-on projects and enjoyed physical labor such as landscaping and wiring cars. Known for his playful spirit and larger-than-life personality, “Chilly” was a true social butterfly who lit up every room he entered. He had a passion for living life to the fullest and embracing the full spectrum of the human experience. Always quick with a joke and full of laughter, yet serious when it came to taking care of business and protecting his family. William was a man of love, strength, and loyalty.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Bunk Carter, Lawrence Carter, and Timothy Wayne.

William leaves to cherish his memory his sisters, Georgianna Walker, Selene Compton, Calandra Carter, and Melissa Clardy. He was a proud and devoted father to his children: Carlos Gulley, Darius Meriwether, Cha’Rico Carter, Ira'Gant Carter, Unique Carter, Brendon Posey, William Carter, Jalon Carter, Jalayah Carter, and William Carter (affectionately known as “Pimpin”). William’s legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren: Imir Carter, Innocence Boyd, Legend Carter, Nas McGuire, Naomi McGuire, Kobe Meriwether, Kye Meriwether, Josiah Grimm, Nirah Grimm, and Iyonna Carter. William also shared a special bond with Chuntaj Collier, and he leaves behind countless extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory forever.

His life was a testament to joy, resilience, and connection. He will forever be remembered for the way he touched hearts, created laughter, and left a lasting imprint on his family, friends, and community.
