Sylvia Diane Cansler went home to be with the Lord on April 10, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Sylvia, born September 22, 1958, in Henderson, Kentucky, was the second of 10 children born to the late Shirley Jean Hancock and James Richard Hancock. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her brother, Dexter Hancock, and her sister, Darlene Hancock.
Sylvia was a graduate of City High School. She professed her love of the Lord at an early age and instilled that love and spiritual reverence in her four children, Richard, Kizzy, Tim, & Elonda Cansler.
Sylvia or “Bird” as she was affectionately called, was a beloved sister, devoted mother & Mamaw, always full of life, laughter, and music. With her robust voice and welcoming spirit, she was a friend to many of all ages, races, and walks of life, drawing everyone in with her good food and her famous macaroni & cheese. She loved to cook, especially for the residents at Henderson Manor, where she retired after 15 years of service.
Sylvia leaves to cherish her loving memory: four children, Richard Cansler, Kizzy Cansler, Tim(Carla) Cansler, and Elonda Cansler; her partner of 17 years, Marvin Presley; siblings: Catherine Gray, William-Bill (Yvonne) Hancock, John Hancock, Sherry Hancock, Gene Hancock, Grace(Corey) Wilson, & Don Hancock; 11 Grandchildren; 4 Great Grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
