Shirley Ann Rankins

Shirley Ann Rankins, 89, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, May 19, 2025.

She was born to Lucille and Roy Rankin Sr. She lived a life rooted in love, strength, and family. After graduating from high school, Shirley lived in Los Angeles, CA and Milwaukee, WI, before returning to her beloved hometown of Evansville. Shirley built a life defined by care and connection with family. Shirley was not only a devoted mother to her own children but a mother to many. Her home was always full of warmth and laughter. Shirley took it upon herself to raise and care for numerous family members to ensure that the bond of kinship remained strong and intact. Shirley’s honesty was as fierce as her love; she never minced words, and her directness earned her deep respect from all who knew her. Her wisdom, stories and life advice will echo throughout generations.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved son Tony Rankin; her siblings; Jaunita Coates, Roy Rankin, Raymond Rankin, Johnny Rankin, Deann Rankin, Jacquilla “Buster” Rankin, and Delores Yarber; grandchildren; Andre Rankin and Diamond Rankin, whom she lovingly raised as her own.

Shirley leaves behind a legacy of love through her children, Maxine Rankin, and David Galbreath, who was also her devoted caretaker, and her fur baby Peppi. Siblings; Steve Rankin, Jeremiah Rankin, and Annabelle Lawrence; grandchildren; Gene, Aleta, Anthony, Robert, and Chasity; 13 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews and so many more that Shirley helped raise as her own.

Shirley Ann will surely be missed.
