Sherri D. Drone, born on September 29, 1955, in Madisonville, Kentucky, passed away on April 21, 2025, in the same beloved town where she spent her life. She was a remarkable woman, whose contributions to her family, community, and country will not be forgotten.
A graduate of West Hopkins High School, Sherri was dedicated to her career, having worked for GE Aerospace for many years. Her commitment to service extended beyond her career; she proudly served in the Kentucky National Guard, demonstrating her unwavering dedication to her country.
Sherri was a loving mother to two boys, Perry Shirley (Tracy) and Raymond Shirley, Jr. (Mary), and a cherished grandmother to her seven grandchildren: Anthony Shirley, Zana Shirley, Cameron Ross (Brittnay), Braylee Shirley (Danny), Mireya Delarosa (Eddie), Aiona Shirley, and Dreyden Shirley. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Mesiah. Her family was her pride and joy, and her memory will live on through the love she shared with them.
In addition to being a devoted mother and grandmother, Sherri was a caring sister, aunt, and friend, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of those who were fortunate to know her. Nancy J. Johnson, Myrna J. Walton, Wavetta Lewis, Sam Kirkwood, Jr., Kenneth Kirkwood (Sheryl), and Ronnie Kirkwood (Cecelia).
Sherri is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Allen Drone; her parents, Samuel Haywood Kirkwood and Mae Carter Kirkwood; and her sister, Brenda Kirkwood. The love she had for her family and friends was evident to all who knew her. She was deeply rooted in her community and her church, where she touched many lives with her kindness and generosity.
In her leisure time, Sherri enjoyed going to the boat and dreamed of going on an Alaskan cruise, a dream that her children will fulfill in her honor. She worked tirelessly to ensure that her family thrived and was deeply respected and loved by many. Sherri will be immensely missed by her family and friends, but her spirit and legacy will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
