Rosa Nathaniel Carter

April 4, 1938 — September 3, 2023

Rosa Nathaniel Toreda Carter (Parrish) was born on April 4, 1938, to the late Ed and Rosa Elliott Parrish of Todd County Kentucky. She transitioned peacefully to her Heavenly home and gained her wings on September 3, 2023, surrounded by her family.
Rosa graduated from Drakesboro Community High School. She was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Mother’s Board under the leadership of Dr. W.R. Brown Sr.
When Rosa moved to Evansville, she married the late Horace McGuire Sr. and from that union, five children were born. Rosa later married the late Melvin Carter Sr. and gained four bonus children.
Rosa was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She always put God first and loved unconditionally. She always prayed before her meals and at night before she went to sleep. She had a quiet spirit, and her favorite song was “Can I Help Somebody”. She never met a stranger. Rosa had a unique laugh with a sigh, and she made the best macaroni and cheese.
Rosa was preceded in death by her husband Melvin Carter Sr.; sons: Horace McGuire Jr. and Bruce Carter; granddaughter: Zuri McGuire; great-grandson: Jesiah Abd-El; daughter: Donna Carter; sisters: Alpha Parrish-Foreman and Dr. Mayme Green; brothers: Raymond, William, Eddie, and James Parrish.
Rosa is survived by her daughters and caregivers: Natalie McGuire and Kimberly McGuire-Bushrod (Anthony); sons: Gary McGuire (Sharmon), Kenneth McGuire (Connie); daughter: Mazzie Carter (Beverly); son: Melvin Carter Jr. (Donna); bonus sons: Timothy Parker (Emily) and Rev. Robert Saunders (Patrice).
Grandchildren: Sirena McGuire-Watson (Lonnie II), ShaMaka Wilson, Dominika(Francois), Torace McGuire, Tanisha McGuire, Whitney Carter, Sierra Carter, Byron Carter, Corey Carter, Nikki Carter, Jasmine Carter and Quincy Carter.
Great-grandchildren: Lonnie Watson III, Borum Kidd, Kyree, Rozzalyn Watson, Lionel Watson, Mamebousso Kidd, Aurielle and Elijah Muhammad McGuire Cubilla; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
