Robert Eugene “Genie” Coffey Norris, age 89, of Henderson, Kentucky, passed away on December 23, 2025, at Deaconess Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 19, 1936, to the late Henny Gordon Norris and Matty Coffey Norris.
Robert, affectionately known as Bob, was a 1952 graduate of Dunbar High School in Morganfield, Kentucky, where he was honored as salutatorian. He attended Tennessee State University before joining the United States Air Force and proudly served his country for 23 years. During his enlistment, he was stationed in Washington, D.C., Alaska, and Japan before retiring from military service.
Following his Air Force career, Bob continued his dedication to service by working for Job Corps, serving as a supervisor at Complex A, where he retired after more than 20 years of committed employment.
Bob enjoyed working outdoors, spending time in his garage fixing things, and decorating for the holidays. He joined Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church at an early age and later attended St. Paul Baptist Church in Corydon.
In 1962, Bob married Joan Dixon, with whom he shared many loving years until her passing in 2017.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Howard Coates, and his grandson, Darrius Happoldt.
Bob is survived by his daughters, Tamara Lash (John) and Yvonne Hancock (Bill); his grandsons, Deon Happoldt, Trey Happoldt, and Brice Hancock; and his longtime special companion, Ms. Juanita Morse; special cousins, George Arnold Clements and family, Karen Coffey, and Gorie Boone; brothers-in-law, George Jackson and family, and Jimmy Dixon and family; and nieces, Celeste Hollomond (“Bay-Bay”) and family, and Karen Coates (“Kaycee”).
