Melvin O'Neal, 98, of Henderson, Kentucky answered the Master's call on January 9, 2024 to rest from his earthly labor.
Melvin was born August 20, 1925, in Shreveport, Louisiana to the late John and Maggie Simms O'Neal. Melvin was U.S. Navy Veteran and served in World War II. He was a member of Greater Norris Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a trustee, bus driver, and a member of the male chorus until his health declined. He loved watching the Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Dodgers, and old western cowboy movies. He was proud to have had five generations in the family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 57 years, Alma; two sons, Richard and Michael; brothers, James, Preston, Alford; and one sister Myrtle.
Survivors include his dedicated children, Calvin R. O'Neal (Theresa), Karen Sue Hammond (Freddie), Regina O. Pullom (Bruce); grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Edna M. O'Neal; nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Services will be at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Greater Norris Chapel Baptist Church in Henderson, Kentucky. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until service time. The Reverend Charles Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery with full military rites.
