Maurice Wayne Hay Sr

October 28, 1938 — August 25, 2023

Maurice Wayne Hay, Sr., 84, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 25, 2023, with his family by his side at St. Anthony’s Hospice. He was born in Calhoun, KY, on October 28, 1938, to John Gurdon and Mildred Irene (Vincent) Hay.

He accepted Christ at a young age at the Webster Street Baptist Church in Sebree, Kentucky. In 1961, he joined the Holy Tabernacle Church of God in Christ. He served as a Deacon, Trustee, and an escort to the Pastors and members of the church.

Maurice was a good father, a hard worker, and a man of few words. He was a man that would help you no matter the circumstances. He worked at Industrial Uniforms, Eaton Axle, and Dana. He was Secretary and Treasurer for his local union: United Steele Workers of America. He received several certificates for his loyal services throughout his career.

Maurice loved to fish, work on cars, and watch Western movies and the News. His memorable phrase that he would say often was, “Lord, I Thank You.” He loved his family and his siblings. He loved his wife and often said, “The Lord gave me my wife (Claudia).” He loved her for 62 and a half years until she went to be with the Lord three months ago. Now, God has called Maurice to be with Him.

In addition to his wife, Claudia Hay and parents John Gurdon and Mildred Irene (Vincent) Hay, Maurice was preceded in death by his only grandson: Maurice W. Hay III; three sisters: Corinia Hay, Emma Jean Hay, and Sarah Hawes; four brothers: Michael, Ralph, James, and Robert (Bobby) Hay.

He is survived by his son: Maurice W. (Rebecca) Hay, Jr.; three daughters: Carol, Tonja, and Joette Hay, all of Henderson, KY; only granddaughter: Maurisha Hay of Chattanooga, TN; two sisters: Katherine (Silas) Woolfolk of Providence, KY and Addie Hayden of Evansville, IN; five brothers: Ira (Elise), George (Patricia), and Leslie Hay all of Henderson, KY, Cornelius (Charisse), and Larry (Angela) Hay all of Evansville, IN; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; special love for in-laws: Pearl (Donald, Sr.) Banks and Velma (LuLu) Brown.
