On Thursday, May 21, 2026, our hearts were shattered when Martha L. Johnson peacefully gained her wings at the age of 48. Martha was born on May 11, 1978, a proud Taurus through and through — strong minded, loving, determined, and yes, a little bull headed in the most unforgettable way. Her strength and resilience carried her through life, and her love left a mark on everyone blessed to know her.
Martha’s earlier years were spent in the loving care of her adopted parents, Louisa Williams and Leslie Johnson, who raised her until their passing. Afterward, her older adopted sister, Alisha Holler Robinson, stepped in with unconditional love and became the guardian and adoptive parent to Martha and her brother, Jerry Johnson.
Above all things in life, Martha loved being a mother. She shared three beautiful children with her longtime companion, best friend, and love, Oliver Kareem Gill Sr. Together they raised the lights of her life: Karazhia Johnson (“Rairai”), Karmahni Johnson (“Bunz”), and her beloved baby boy, Oliver Kareem Gill Jr., lovingly known as “King” — truly her king.
Martha shared special bonds with so many people throughout her life. She reunited with her sister, Barbra Bryant, during their younger years and cherished that connection deeply. She was also very close with her cousins Nicola Jackson, Shuntika Robinson, Colleen Sutton, and Jazzimane Ogburn. Her closest friendships included her best friends Mesha Gilbert and Stephanie Kincaid, who stood beside her through many chapters of life.
She was preceded in death by her birth mother, Martha Johnson Sr., as well as the loving family members who welcomed her with open arms into eternity.
Left to cherish her memory are her children; Oliver Kareem Gill Sr.; her grandmother, Maxine Robinson of Detroit; her siblings; a host of aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends who loved her dearly.
Martha spent many years working in hospitality management and took pride in managing apartment communities and helping others feel at home. She also had a natural gift for decorating and event planning and found joy in bringing beauty and happiness to the people around her. In her quiet moments, Martha loved reading books, watching Lifetime movies, and traveling whenever she had the chance to explore new places and make memories.
Martha’s smile, strength, humor, and love will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her. Though her physical presence is gone, her spirit will continue to live through her children, family, and everyone whose life she touched.
“Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.”
