Leonard “Little Man” Collins, son of the late Dolores Richardson, accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and became a faithful member and deacon of Memorial Baptist Church, where he attended worship services and participated in church activities until his passing.
He was a graduate of Central High School and later joined the U.S. Army, where he served honorably during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he worked for many years at Alcoa, until his retirement.
Leonard proudly served as president of the Goosetown Neighborhood Association, where he became a true pillar of the community. Affectionately referred to as the “Mayor of Goosetown,” he was known for registering voters, working the polls, keeping neighbors informed, and encouraging and advocating for local leaders. He also dedicated his time and service to UNOE (United Neighborhoods of Evansville), working to strengthen connections and improve the quality of life across the community.
Leonard was known for his warm personality and sense of humor. He always put a smile on people’s faces, lifting spirits wherever he went. He was a light in his community, always eager to lend a hand to neighbors and friends. His presence brought joy and encouragement to those around him. His kindness, generosity, and willingness to help others will be remembered by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Dolores Richardson; grandmother, Amanda Collins; his devoted wife, Dolores Collins; his son, Rico Collins; brothers, Leon “Big Man” Collins and Reverend Ronald Douglas Collins; and his great-grandson, Camdyn Gainey.
Cherishing his memory are his grandchildren: Atoka Toregano (Raven Young), Infiniti Collins, and Kentar Collins; step-son, Tony Bolin; his surviving uncle, Deacon Raymond Crenshaw; his surviving sisters-in-law, Antoinette Collins, Kate Collins, and Janis Collins; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Being a grandfather and an uncle was one of Leonard’s greatest joys, and he embraced those roles with love, pride, and devotion. He will be remembered as a man of faith, joy, and service whose legacy of love and laughter will continue to live on in the hearts of many.
