Listen to Obituary

Johnnie accepted Christ at an early age at St. James Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. William Moore. She later joined Greater St. James Missionary Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Douglas F. Smith. In 1987, she and her husband reunited with Christian Fellowship Church, where she remained active until her health began to decline.

Johnnie was educated in the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation (EVSC), attending Third Avenue Elementary School and Lincoln High School, and graduating from Central High School. She possessed a quiet spirit and found great joy in spending time with her family.

Johnnie leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Elroy Snaden, with whom she shared forty-four years of marriage; one daughter, Veronica Denise Freels-Fleming (Bryan), who faithfully served as her caregiver; one stepson, La'Dane Snaden (Darlene); one stepdaughter, Celestia Snaden of Michigan; two brothers, Arthur Kemp and Maurice Kemp; one sister, Delores Kemp-Morehead; brothers-in-law, Lucian Snaden, James Snaden (Hilda), and Marcus Snaden; and one sister-in-law, Janice Robinson of Winchester, Kentucky. She also leaves a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

The family extends a special thank you to LaShanda Fleming for the love and care she provided during Johnnie’s final months. Johnnie will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her quiet strength, and the love she shared with those closest to her. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
