Jean Marie Poindexter

Jean Marie Lisembee Poindexter, 63, was born on August 6, 1962, to the late Anna Lisembee Johnson, and departed this life to receive her heavenly crown on July 31, 2026, at Deaconess Hospital in Henderson, KY.

Jean accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Mount Olivet Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir. She was affectionately known as “Songbird” by her pastor, Rev. Dr. Anthony Anguish Sr. After marrying the love of her life, Leon Poindexter, she joined New Jerusalem Baptist Church. At New Jerusalem, Jean sang in the choir, served on the Missionary Board, and was a Mother of the church. She enjoyed crafting, decorating, and creating unique design pieces for the church, her home, and for special occasions.

Jean worked in the Henderson County School System in the Child Care department for 26 years. In addition to her mother, Anna Lisembee Johnson, she was preceded in death by brothers, Bill Lisembee and Thomas “Mickey” Lisembee; sister, Pamela Hagan; and nephew, Truan Hagan.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 39 years, Leon Poindexter; daughter, Alyse Poindexter; son, Miles Poindexter (fiancée Kaitlynn Coy); sister, Lisa Haywood; grandchildren, Julius “Brighton” Lindsey and Jordyne Lindsey; aunt, Shelia Langley; brothers-in-law, Laffoon “Chip” Williams (Katie) and Delord Hester; nieces, Karis Bradley, Jazmine Haywood and Jade Haywood; nephews, Adrian (Brigetta) Lisembee, Tory Hagan, Max Lisembee, and Alex (Mallory) Lisembee; beloved sister-in-law, Joan Lisembee; special nephew, Tim Williams; godson, Drayvin O’Neal; her birthday and “Holiday Crafting” crew, Theresa O’Neal, Corina Floyd and Gail Turner; and a host of cousins and friends.
