James Wisdom, Jr. was born on October 30, 1942, to the late James Wisdom, Sr., and Alpha Wisdom Foreman. He passed away on August 30, 2025, in Evansville, Indiana, at the age of 82.
A proud veteran, James served his country with honor in the United States Air Force, where he completed and received certificates of completion for Plumbing System Maintenance. His dedication to service extended beyond the military as he broke barriers in his professional life, becoming the first “Negro” to complete the Evansville building trades apprenticeship program in its initial 23-year history, becoming the “First Black Graduated Journeyman! “ This milestone marked a significant step forward for other blacks who followed behind him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Lorenzo Young, Sr, sisters Dorothy Chambers, Maxine Sawyer-Jackson, and Flora Wisdom Malone, and brothers Willie Wisdom and Bryant Foreman.
James leaves to mourn six children: Stan Wisdom of Indianapolis, IN, Cathy Jackson-Holman of Virginia Beach, VA, Alpha Wisdom-Holland and Chris Wisdom both of Indianapolis, IN, Starla Wisdom-Allen (Kenneth), and Michael Wisdom both of Evansville, IN. He is also remembered by his stepson, Sean Perry of Indianapolis, IN, and a sister, Virginia Foreman-Copeland. James’ life was one of perseverance and strength. His legacy lives on through his children and those touched by his journey. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
