James Overton Stingily Jr. was born on October 19, 1970, to the parents of James Overton Stingily Sr. and Marian Richardson (Haygood). At Child Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, From the moment he entered this world with his eyes wide open, James carried a strong spirit, curiosity, and passion for life. As a child, James was full of energy, intelligence, and joy. He was known as an entertaining child who kept everyone smiling. One of his favorite songs growing up was Bad, Bad Leroy Brown, and at just 5 years old he would run around the house singing it proudly. He was very smart, often at the top of his class, and spent much of his childhood making memories with his best friends at Rainbow Beach Park.

James began his education at Adam Clayton Powell Elementary School on South Shore Drive in Chicago and later attended Hirsch High School. Determined to build a future for himself, he joined the United States Navy, where he proudly served his country from 1988 to 1992. During his years of service, he earned his high school diploma, was stationed in Virginia, and was deployed to Iran.

After returning home to Chicago, His first job after the military was working as a security guard James also worked at GE Capital for many years. In 2002 James moved to Kenosha, Wisconsin, to be closer to his children and family. Later, in 2017 he relocated to Evansville Indiana , where he continued building his life and career. before spending many dedicated years in the forklift and warehouse industry. He worked for companies including TJ Maxx Distribution Center and Amazon Distribution Center. James was known as a hardworking, business-minded man who always stayed driven and focused on handling his responsibilities.

Beyond his work ethic, James will be remembered most for his joyful spirit and sense of humor. He loved making people laugh, cracking jokes, and bringing smiles to those around him. His laughter and energy remained with him until his final days.

James believed strongly in education and wanted his children to strive for greatness. He was proud that all of his children completed high school, and he was especially happy to see his oldest daughter continue her educational journey at the prestigious Clark Atlanta aUniversity, fulfilling his dream of seeing one of his children attend a HBCU.

James leaves to cherish his memory his loving children: daughter Anyiah Stingily and sons James Stingily and Avonté Brown and his beloved granddaughter, Alayah Brown, who was truly his pride and joy. He also leaves behind his mother, Marian Richardson (Haygood); his sisters Marian Richardson (White), Tiny Stingily, and Ivy Haygood; his brother Byron Stingily; brother-in-law Cedric White; his nephew Courtney Butler, who was like a son to him; his niece Angelica; along with many other nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

He also leaves behind Angel Brown, the mother of his children and his everlasting soulmate. Although life led them through different marriages and journeys, they always found their way back to one another. Their bond remained strong for more than 25 years, built on love, friendship, loyalty, and family. In James’ final days, Angel lovingly cared for him and stood faithfully by his side until the very end.

James gained his wings on May 21, 2026, at 12:30 p.m. He is reunited in Heaven with his father, James Overton Stingily Sr. His godfather, Daniel Harris; his sister Pamela; and his maternal and paternal grandparents. James will forever be loved, remembered, and deeply missed by all who knew him.
