Herbert Keith Sydnor, Sr., 85, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2025. Born on November 18, 1939, to Eleanor Sydnor-Roberts and Edward Sydnor, Herb was a lifelong resident of Evansville and a proud 1956 graduate of Lincoln High School, where he excelled in basketball, football, and track. Herb continued his education at the University of Evansville and Lockyear College. A dedicated patriot, Herbert served in the United States Army for two terms as a medic in the Vietnam War. He was also a member of the Lincoln Clark Douglas Alumni Association.
Upon returning home, Herb married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Barrett, in 1973. He worked for Inland Steel and served as an EMT for the City of Evansville ambulance service before dedicating 35 years of service to the Evansville Fire Department, from which he retired in 2002.
Herb enjoyed detailing cars, was an avid sports fan, and had a deep appreciation for jazz and solid gold oldies music.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Barbara Sydnor; his father, Edward Sydnor; his mother, Eleanor Sydnor-Roberts; his stepfather, James Roberts; his niece, Lyn (Adams) HoltzClaw; his brother-in-law, Cleophus Adams; and his son, Herbert "Keith" Sydnor, Jr.
Herbert is survived by his sister, Delphine (Sydnor) Adams-Brown; his niece, Kimberly Adams-Levy (Steve); his daughter, Darlene Bagby; his son, John Sydnor; his granddaughters, Micha, Maurita, and Michelle Farmer; his grandsons, JRico Sydnor and JVon Sydnor; his great-grandchildren, Zaire Sebree, Kaelan Sebree, Madison Farmer, and Zaven Sebree. Bonus grandson Rodney Robinson. his great-great-grandchildren, Keegan and Isabella; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, former colleagues, and friends, including his lifelong friend, Elizabeth "Betty" Sneed.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Compassus Hospice Care nurses, Mary, Erica, and Bailey, for their excellent care of Mr. Sydnor.
