Guy Gene Scisney

Guy Scisney, Jr. was born February 10, 1947, to the late Guy Scisney, Sr. and Carrie Lucille Johnson Scisney in Christian County, Kentucky.  He was the fourth of seven children.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Elwanda Goodrich; two brothers, Arthello Scisney and Phillip Scisney; one son-in-law, Marcus Bussell; one sister-in-law, Geraldine Scisney; one brother-in-law, John Matlock.

Guy, Jr. accepted Christ at an early age. He was a faithful and proud member of Lively Stone Church of God in Nortonville, KY where he was baptized in 1959. He returned to worship at Lively Stone in recent years.

While attending high school, he met the love of his life, Patricia Ann Morris, when they were just 13.   In 1964, Guy graduated from Rosenwald High School in Madisonville, KY. Guy was a hard worker from the age of 17.   Although he had aspirations of joining the Air Force, he was drafted into the United States Army in 1966 during the Vietnam War. Guy proudly served and became a Specialist Military Police Officer. During his tour of duty, he traveled from Barcelona, Spain to Paris, France before being stationed in Germany from 1966-1968. Following his time in Europe, he attended Spencerian Business School and worked for the Louisville Courier-Journal before returning home to Hopkins County.

On June 21, 1969, he was united in marriage with his true love, Patricia Ann Morris.  They were blessed to celebrate 54 ½ years of marriage. From their union came two children, Sheri Lynette and Saundra Elaine.

In 1970, Guy became a second-generation coal miner giving 44 dedicated years working underground. During his career, Guy experienced all aspects of underground mining including becoming a Certified EMT to his final position as Fire Boss. Because of his hard work & dedication, Guy was awarded the John A. Holmes Safety Association 40-year Individual Award.  He also received the Certificate of Honor for working 40 years in the mining industry without injury. He believed that by helping others to stay safe, you in turn keep yourself safe.  He was a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America for over 50 years.   Following his retirement from the mines, he worked for GE and Carhartt until his illness.

In addition to his extensive work history, he was a member and former president of the Friendly One’s Club.  Alongside his beloved wife, he co-founded G&P Distributors.  

Guy leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife Patricia; loving daughters, Sheri Lynette Scisney, and Saundra Elaine Scisney; adoring grandchildren, Trevian Scisney and Jaxon Scisney all of Madisonville; bonus grands, JaSean Grass, Starr Iverson all of Madisonville, Kway Bussell of Cadiz, KY; three beloved sisters, Carolyn “Kay” Johnson, Indianapolis, In, Dr. Margaret Scisney Matlock “Baby” of Ann Arbor, MI, and Yolanda “Lonnie” Spriggs of St. Louis, MO; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and church family.
