Elwanda Fisher, 85, peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home on April 21, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 29, 1939, in Henderson, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Atlee and Gwendolyn Shelton Sheets. After the early loss of her mother at just 11 months old, Elwanda was lovingly raised by her paternal grandparents, Hilary and Clotille Sheets, along with her bonus mother, Helen Sheets, who cherished her dearly.
Elwanda's faith in Christ began at an early age, and she remained a devoted member of Seventh Street Missionary Baptist Church throughout her life. Her commitment to her church was evident as she served on various auxiliaries, including the mother’s and usher’s boards, making a lasting impact on her community.
A proud graduate of Douglas High School in 1958, Elwanda married her high school sweetheart, Clarence Edward Fisher, Sr. Together, they shared 43 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in 2002. Professionally, she dedicated 30 years of service to Bristol Myers Squibb in Evansville, Indiana, where she was a valued employee.
Elwanda's legacy is one of immense love, kindness, strength, and unwavering dedication to her family and friends. She embraced life with joy, enjoying activities such as shopping, traveling, attending horse races, dancing, visiting casinos, and spending quality time with her loved ones.
In addition to her parents and husband, Elwanda was preceded in death by an infant daughter and son. She leaves behind a treasure trove of cherished memories through her son, Clarence Edward Fisher, Jr. (Margaret); daughter, Gwendolyn Fisher-Anderson (Timothy); granddaughters, Whitney Williams, Devin Howard, Alondra Howard, and Briana Williams (Chris); grandsons, Justin Fisher and Christian Fisher; and great grandson, Braxton Fisher. She is also survived by her bonus granddaughter, Ariel Young (Jamaal); her aunt, Toni Strum; sister-in-law, Linda Williams; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
