Elodia Minnette Martin was born in Basket, Kentucky, on July 22, 1932, to the late Joseph Hawkins and Lucille Walker. She departed this life on May 3, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
She was married to John Martin, who was her life. Elodia was a member of Renew Baptist Church, a generous supporter, and a frequent attendee until her illness prevented her from doing so.
Elodia, affectionately known as “YaYa,” will be missed. She was very loving and always willing to help others, even when her health declined. She also loved getting her hair braided by Devona Thomas. Elodia worked for the EVSC for over 30 years. She enjoyed working with handicapped children and counseling others. In her spare time, she loved to travel, play Bingo, and play cards. She was an avid gardener, and Goodwill was her best friend.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Archie Walker, and most recently, her son, Courtney Dixon.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Rev. John Martin; grandson, Courtney Dixon III; granddaughter, Ann Parker (Donnie); niece, Ollieen Walker Simmons; and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, as well as other family and friends.
