Listen to Obituary

Doretha Dianne Milan Henderson was born on December 17, 1971, in Evansville, Indiana, to Ira Milan and Cora Ellen Cooper. She departed this world on December 20, 2025, surrounded by the warmth and love of her family at Heart-to-Heart Hospice care at the age of 54. Her journey through life was marked by kindness, laughter, and a deep commitment to her loved ones.

As a mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter, Doretha’s heart knew no bounds. She embraced her role in life with unmatched dedication, nurturing her children, Shakora Lewis and Stephanie Roe, and her sons, Dominic Milan and Xavier Turner, with unwavering love. The joy of her life was expanded by the presence of her grandson, Jeremiah Johnson, who brought light into her world.

Doretha’s educational journey included attending Radford High School in Hawaii, where she distinguished herself as a member of the Jr. ROTC team and achieved the rank of Specialist. This early experience instilled in her a sense of discipline and resilience that she carried throughout her life.

A proud member of Memorial Missionary Baptist Church, Doretha found solace and community within her church family. Her faith was an essential part of her life, and she cherished the connections forged through shared beliefs and values. Above all, Doretha had a natural ability to greet everyone she encountered with a smile, offering her help and support to anyone in need. She found joy in poetry and often spent her spare time watching judge shows, among her many passions.

Doretha was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents, Ira and Hazel Milan, and Manuel and Nathalene Moss, whose presence she cherished deeply. While they may be gone, the legacy of love they built lived on in Doretha’s spirit.

Doretha is survived by her daughters, Shakora Lewis and Stephane Roe; sons, Domonic Milan and Xavier Turner; her loving parents, Cora Ellen Cooper (Titus), Ira "Butch" Milan, and her stepmother, Louise Milan; brothers, Troy D., Anthony D., Toran L., and Stacey Milan, as well as her sister Charah Milan; grandson, Jeremiah Lewis; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins, who will continue to honor her memory through the love and laughter they shared.

As we gather to celebrate Doretha’s remarkable life, her memory will endure. In these moments, we will come together as family and friends, reflecting on the kindness, laughter, and love that defined Doretha's life, and carrying forth her vibrant spirit in our hearts.
