Donald Eugene Young, Sr.

Donald E. Young, Sr., passed away on May 15, 2025, at his home. He was born to the union of Irene and Elijah Young in Evansville, IN. Donald was a member of the Class of 1962 at Lincoln High School, the last class to graduate. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserves for 2 years. Upon leaving the Corp, Donald worked in the grocery business and became a butcher at Cut Rate Market from which he retired after 40 years working for Gene Reising and Kenneth Heitzman, two of the greatest employers he worked for. Donald also worked for short periods for Clark Johnson at the Self-Help Market and at the Lincoln Ave. Key Market before returning to Cut Rate Market until they closed. For 5 years, Donald worked at Save-A-Lot Market until his health prevented him from working.

Donald loved fishing, grilling for his family, and playing golf. His family will sorely miss him.

In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his sisters, Elizabeth Williams, Judith Briscoe, Cynthia Briscoe, Roselie Briscoe, Theresa Briscoe Johnson, Martha W. Church, and brother, Edward Young; grandson, Donald E. Young, III.

Donald leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 59 years, Janice M. Young; children, Donald E. Young, Jr. (Amber), Shawn Dewayne Young, Sr., Tammy L. Ledford, all of Evansville, Alonzo C. Ledford (Kena) of Las Vegas, Nevada; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Thomas Ledford; sister-in-law, Pamela J. Ledford; nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
