Denita G. (Johnson) Miles, aged 68, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away at her residence on Tuesday, April 14th, 2026, following a prolonged battle with liver and bone cancer.
Born on October 7th, 1957, in Evansville, Denita was the daughter of the late Harold D. and Alice (Buckner) Johnson. She served as a steadfast presence in the lives of those around her, recognized for her reliability, encouragement, positivity, and compassion. Denita was passionate about baking, regularly preparing both traditional and innovative dishes. She cherished time spent with her grandchildren, supporting and inspiring them as they grew.
Her family members observed many facets of her character: she was a devoted wife to her husband, a diligent single mother to her children, and a beloved grandmother known for her musicality.
Denita will be survived by her husband, Henry Miles; preceded in death by her parents, Harold Douglas Johnson Sr. and Alice Margarite Buckner Johnson; brothers Ronald Lee Johnson and Decarlo Marvel Johnson; and sisters Etta Shavon Gilford, Carrie Elaine Johnson, and Pamela Yvette Johnson. She is survived by her brothers Terry Tyrone (Arma) Johnson, Gary Preston (Glenda) Johnson, and Dennis Darnell Johnson; sisters LaDonna Fay Dabbs, Peggy Denise Johnson, and Angela Arlene Johnson; extended family Philip and Edna Whittaker of Sacramento, California; Verlyn Whittaker of Evansville, Indiana; Laura and Ronnie Hall of Aurora, Colorado; children DeMetrius Johnson, Kenneth Berry, Clark Johnson, Jamar Miles and the late Brian Miles; and grandchildren Deshawn Johnson, RaSaunda Johnson, Davion Berry, Kenyia Berry, Keanna Berry, Denae Berry, Kylen Berry, Sariah Berry, Drakkar Johnson, Nu’Era Johnson, and Calyjah Johnson, Jamaria Miles, Ambria Miles, SaBriya Miles, and Aniya Miles and many friends, family, and great grandchildren.
Denita will be remembered for her determination, composure, humor, warmth, and the affection she shared with all who knew her. Her legacy endures among family and friends, and she will be deeply missed.
