David Parker, born on July 24, 1951, in Evansville, Indiana, to the late Virginia Chatman and David Withers, peacefully passed away on July 22, 2025, at his home. At the age of three, he moved to Danville, Illinois, with his mother, where he was educated within the Danville Public School system. After graduating, David proudly served in the United States Navy, a period he always spoke of with honor.
Following his discharge from the Navy, David began a diverse career that included working at the Newport Ammunition Plant in Newport, Indiana, and serving as a supervisor at Danville Pavilion. He also spent many years as an over-the-road truck driver, which he enjoyed immensely. In 1989, David relocated to Indianapolis, where he worked for Walls Construction and later as a counselor and transportation tech at Westside Ministries until health challenges arose.
David was a dedicated Deacon at The Faith Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Dowdy until the church's closure due to COVID and other circumstances. His commitment to his faith and community was evident in his leadership roles and his care for others.
In his leisure time, David found joy in fishing and bowling, but most of all, he cherished the moments spent with his family and friends. His nieces and nephews held a special place in his heart, and he loved them as if they were his own children.
David is preceded in death by his brother James Parker, sister Martha Parker Allen, stepbrother Corky Leek, and sister-in-law Nyrita Parker.
He is remembered fondly by his brother, Lawrence (Beverly) Parker of Danville, Illinois; sisters Elouise (Oscar) Livingston of Atlanta, Georgia, and Geraldine Parker Hooser of Evansville, Indiana; stepsiblings Ivan and David Leek of Danville, Illinois, and Carolyn Leek of Danville; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will carry forward his memory.
David Parker's legacy of love and commitment to family will forever be cherished.
