Dave was born in 1932, during the Great Depression. He grew up in Alabama and left home at 15 and worked various jobs as he made his way towards Kentucky where he would meet his one true love, Rose Edmond Burk. But he had adventure along the way—working on a riverboat, and as a waiter for an exclusive country club (visited by Truman’s vice—A. W. Barkley—whom he had the pleasure of serving), and many other jobs that allowed him to learn skills that would benefit him for the rest of his life. After marrying Rose in 1951 (a union that was blessed with 8 children, 13 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren), Dave would work as a cook for Stokely-Van Camp, then learned electrical maintenance. After finishing trade school, Dave worked as head electrician for the police department and was asked by many lawyers and judges to do their home electrical maintenance—one with whom he maintained a long friendship. He became an honorary deputy for Marion County, Indiana and was a Ham radio operator for many years. For twenty years he was a deacon at C.W. Webb Memorial Church of God in Christ in Indianapolis. He did general maintenance for Indianapolis Public Schools before moving to Texas. He retired from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1992. After retiring, Dave worked briefly for Martin Sprocket & Gear in Burleson, Texas. On June 9, Dave peacefully departed this world to join his beloved Rose and the entire Host of Heaven. He leaves behind a host of family and friends who will dearly miss his prayers, his humor, his selfless giving of himself, his unconditional love and wisdom.
