Chan Courtney Mile, 62, graced us with her presence on June 7, 1963, being born to the late Ruby Miles and Webster Killerbrew in Evansville, IN. God gently took her hand and led her home the evening of July 3, 2025, at Linda White Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family and dearest friend.
Chan attended Lincoln Elementary School and graduated from North High School. Upon graduation, she followed her dream of enlisting in the United States Army. After discharge, she returned home to begin her career in the food industry where she excelled to become a 5-star server. Chan was requested to serve for many events and special dining occasions, leaving her guests with an enjoyable and memorable dining experience.
Over the years, she worked at the Evansville Countr Club, The Pub, The Jungle, Angelo’s and finally, Milano’s restaurants where she was employed until her health declined. Chan was well-loved in her profession.
Chan’s faith in the Lord developed at an early age being baptized at Zion Baptist Church by the late Rev. John Caldwell. She later transferred her membership to Nazarene Baptist Church under Pastor Larry Rascoe where she sang in the Sanctuary Choir under the direction of Shawn Humphries
To know Chan was to love her. She had a personality as big as the universe, and she never met a stranger. Her love for her dog child, Caponia lasted 9 years during which she allowed him to run the house. The love between them was mutual as Caponia would wait patiently, looking out the window for Chan to return home. Her friend of many years, Earl McClendon (affectionately known as Hog), took care of Caponia and Chan during her time of need.
In addition to her dog child, Caponia, Chan leaves to cherish her memory, brothers, Orlando Jones, Steven Miles, Mozell Jones (Charlene), Jerry Jones, all of Evansville; sisters, Anna Gray, Linda Boyd (David) , Delilah Jones, all of Evansville, Inez Jones of Lorain Ohio; uncle, Larry Miles (Lisa) of St. Louis, MO; aunt, Lee Lee Miles, Diane Miles, all of St. Louis, MO; a host of beloved cousins, and nephews, and nieces to whom she was affectionately known as Auntie Booka.
