Listen to Obituary

Bryan Keith Matthews, Sr. (Keithy), 61, gained his wings on Monday, July 13, 2026, at 12:45 a.m. at St. Vincent Hospital with family at his bedside. Keithy was born on March 12, 1965, to Judith (Matthews) Woodard in Evansville, IN.

He attended St. John’s Methodist Church as a child and joined Memorial Baptist Church, where he attended with his mother and family until his health prevented him from going. He attended Oak Hill Elementary School, Harrison High School, and North High School in the class of ’84.

Keithy enjoyed time with family and friends, whether watching old movies, following sports, or simply sharing good company. He was a talented basketball and baseball player and was quite good at playing dominoes and chess. He worked at various companies in Evansville, including Red Spot and Goodman Distribution, where he was a forklift driver.

Keithy was a very loving, funny, hard-working man. He enjoyed playing tricks and cracking jokes on his family and friends, and especially his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He loved his family. He was well known in the Evansville community for helping anyone, and he loved driving his mother around the city to shop at different stores.

Keithy was preceded in death by his brother, Jeffery Turpin; his sister, Katherine Woodard; his grandparents, Vitula and Sam Mallory, Gwendolyn Garth; a special aunt, Vivian “Aunt Bee” Keel; and his pops, Kenneth Woodard.

He leaves to cherish his memories his mother, Judith (Matthews) Woodard; son, Bryan Keith Matthews Jr.; granddaughters, Keita and Naleigha; grandsons, Major and Malachi; brothers: Andon (Taylor) Moore, Kevin & Keith Woodard; sister, Autumn Pauley; aunts, Debra Chipps, Lucille Stewart, Sheliah Brimm; uncles, Kerry (Laurie) Mallory, Leroy (Sheila) Brimm, Frankie Lanier, and Michael Woodard; special niece, Ariana Moore (who loved her “Uncle Smackey”); and nephew, Jeremiah Johnson (Jay bug); and host of other nieces, nephews, and cousins and a special “Cousin” Martha Lou Hurtz.
