Willie R. Ferrell, 87, of Henderson, KY, passed away Monday June 6, 2016 at Methodist Hospital. Willie was born August 2, 1928 in Washington, GA to the late Willie and Cleo Ferrell. Willie was retired from the U.S. Army as a Sgt. Major after 30 years of service. His service included stations in Europe, including Germany, and in combat in both Korea and Vietnam. After retiring from the military, the family moved to Henderson where he found employment at the Earle C. Clements Job Corps Center as an instructor. He worked there for 17 years until his retirement. Willie also served as a Deacon at Seventh St. Baptist Church until his passing. He was an avid golfer and an excellent Scrabble player.
In addition to his parents, Willie was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Jane A. Ferrell; two brothers: Wardell Ferrell and Vernon Ferrell; In-laws: Edward, Sr. & Orrelette Parker; three brothers-in law: Edward Parker, Jr, Thomas Parker, and Robert Parker; one sister-in-law: Rose Smith.
Willie is survived by family who will cherish fond & loving memories, 3 Sons: Edward N. Ferrell of Evansville, Robert U. Ferrell of Henderson, Johnny Powell of Philadelphia, PA; 1 sister-in-law: Mary Elizabeth Johnson of Las Vegas; 1 brother-in-law: Charles (Buck) Smith of Morganfield; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews; loved and respected.
Services will be held Monday June 13, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Seventh Street Baptist Church with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery where graveside Military Rites will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anthony’s Hospice, Lucy Smith King Care Center in Henderson.
