Stephanie Elizabeth Powell

Stephanie Elizabeth Powell, retired SFC, was born to Juanita Smith and Robert A. Smith in Evansville, IN in 1968. She graduated from Bosse High School where she was an exceptional track star and team manager for the high school basketball team as well as one of the marching bulldog’s band and debate team member.
In 1985, Stephanie joined the U.S. Army Reserve in Evansville, Indiana before going active duty and serving her country in many stateside and overseas assignments as a Laboratory Specialist. These assignments included tours in Iraq; South Korea; Federal Republic of Germany; Fort Bliss, Texas; Fort Sam Houston, Texas; Walter Reed Army Institute of Research; and Fort Benning, Georgia. In 1987, while serving in Korea, she had proven herself as one having the ability to learn quickly and handle responsibilities at a level usually given to those of more senior rank. Therefore she was assigned, as a junior officer, as the Non-Commissioned Officer-In-Charge of the Laboratory Bank serving the United States Army in South Korea. Her outstanding service while serving earned her many awards which included: Meritorious Service Medal (3x); Army Commendation Medal (5x); Army Achievement Medal (2x); Meritorious Unit Commendation; Army Superior Unit Award; Army Good Conduct Medal (8x); National Defense Service Medal (2x); and the Global War on Terrorism Medal.
After 25 years of military service Stephanie was honorably discharged and retired on June 13, 2013 and crossed over into the civilian sector utilizing her God-given laboratory talents and skill set. One of her most notable occupations was that as a Lab Tech at the VA Facility and Fort Benning in Columbus, GA.
In 1988 Stephanie was married to Sean K. Powell in which two daughters, Seance’ “Say Say” Marie Powell, age 29, and Sean Nicole “Nikki” Powell, age 25, were born. On December 10, 2012 Seance’ gave birth to Stephanie’s one and only grandchild, Zayden “Zaybug” Michael Ware. She was the mother and grandmother who you didn’t want to cross by messing with these three.
Stephanie was preceded in death by her father: Robert A. Smith and her grandparents: Eugene and Armentha Moore.
Stephanie leaves to continue honoring and celebrating her memory, her mother: Juanita Smith; her brother: Robert Sebree; her daughters: Seance’ Marie (Robert Woodring) and Sean Nicole Powell; grandson: Zayden Michael Ware; Niece and Nephew: Tracyetta and Calvin Hawkins II, close friend: Sean K. Powell: and a host of other loved ones.
