Ronald Leon Smith

March 18, 1944 — April 1, 2020

Ronald “Smitty” L. Smith was born March 18, 1944 in Henderson, KY, the eldest child of the late Herman and Grace Smith. He professed a belief in Christ at an early age and was a baptized member of Norris Chapel Missionary Baptist Church of Henderson.
Smitty attended Alves Street Grade School and graduated from Douglass High School after which he enlisted in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged in 1968. He worked for a number of years for Henderson City Parks Dept. and retired from there as a Grounds Supervisor.
A native Hendersonian he lived his later years in Evansville, IN where he made numerous friends. He would help the older residents of Buckner Towers Apartments by giving them rides to take care of their bills . He would even walk their pets. Smitty was a very dependable friend and had a nickname for practically all of his friends.
He is survived by one daughter: Cassandra (San-San) A. Smith of Louisville, KY; two sons: Ronald & Rashawn Smith of Henderson, KY; 8 brothers: Roger Smith, Michael (Glendora) Smith, William (Keeby) Smith, all of Henderson, KY, James Smith of Evansville, Herman Smith of South Bend, Brian Smith of Covington, KY, Bruce (Angie) Smith of Virginia Beach, VA, Asa (Sylvia) Smith of Atlanta, GA; 3 sisters: Wanda Smith and Deborah Bushrod of Evansville, Mary Smith of Louisville, KY; Eleven Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
