Mary Lou Miller

August 2, 1934 — July 12, 2016

Mary Lou Miller, 81, was carried to Heaven on the wings of angels on July 12, 2016 while in Deaconess Hospital surrounded by her family and church friends. She had been a resident of Parkview Care Center in Evansville, Indiana for several months. Mary was born August 2, 1934 to Roscoe and Eddie Mae Taylor in Montgomery County Tennessee. She confessed her belief in God and was baptized at a very early age at Gilfeld Baptist Church in Gutherie, Tennessee.

In August 1994, Mary and her husband, Robert Miller, Sr. renewed their wedding vows at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church with the late Rev. W.R. Brown, Sr. officiating. They were married for 54 years until his death in 2014. As an active member of New Hope, Mary Lou was on the Mother’s Board, a member of the Voices of Hope, and the Culinary Committee. Mary also enjoyed attending Sunday School and many of the church conventions.

Mary was a dedicated cafeteria worker for 13 years with the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation and retired as an Assistant Cafeteria Manager at Bosse High School. She was also a Foster Grandparent for 14 years. In her spare time Mary enjoyed her Seek & Find puzzles and shopping for her suits and matching hats and purses for church. Her greatest joy was preparing large meals for her children when they came home to Evansville for a visit!

Mary leaves to cherish fond memories, four daughters: Althea Mitchell-Bennett (George) of Durham, NC, Vennetta Mitchell of Evansville who was caregiver to both her parents, LaDonna Miller of Dallas, TX, Phyllis Miller of Evansville; five sons: Mark Miller of Dallas, TX, Donald Miller of Atlanta, GA, Darin Miller of Evansville, David Miller (Tina) of Dallas, TX, Robert Miller, Jr. of Evansville; 1 sister: Lucy Williams (Shirley) of Evansville; 1 brother Phil Taylor (Rose) of Cocoa, Fl.; 17 Grandchildren; 18 Great-grandchildren; 11 Great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
