Joseph Thomas

Joseph (Joe) William Thomas, was called to cross over to eternal life on January 27, 2020. He was born in Hecla, KY on September 21, 1937 to Rosa and James Thomas who preceded him in death. He professed a hope in Christ at an early age and joined Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where he remained a member in spite of moving to Indiana.
In 1959, he married Anna Louise “Lou" who preceded him in death. They moved to Gary, IN in 1965 but he still loved visiting his hometown several times during the year. Joe worked at U.S. Steel Mill for 30+ years and retired in 2000.
Golfing was his favorite pastime. He loved walking around the golf course or the Village Shopping Center. He had a daily routine of eating breakfast at McDonald's with his breakfast club. Then he would play golf or cards at Gleason Park Golf Course. Joe was an avid shopper for clothes and music.
He was preceded in death by two brothers Ellis and Luther Thomas and two sisters Ruby McClellan and Jessie Carter.
Precious memories will be left to his daughter Stephanie Denson; grandchildren Davin, Sr. and Rudie Denson; great-grandchildren Davin, Jr. and Danica Denson all of Lithonia, GA; three brothers Lincoln and David Thomas of Earlington, KY; and Gene Thomas of Louisville, KY; two sisters Mary Thomas of Rochester, NY and Glenda Scisney of Earlington, KY; three sisters-in-law, Virginia Johnson of Madisonville, KY; Delores Harris of Gary, IN; Wanda Thomas of Earlington, KY; one brother-in law Dallas Scisney (Carolyn) of Madisonville, KY and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 1 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Hecla, KY. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to service time. Burial will be at Oak Wood Cemetery. Mason and Sons have been entrusted with the final care.
