Homer B. Thomas

Homer B. Thomas, age 91, was born in Carlisle County, Kentucky on July 18, 1927 to the late Abraham Lincoln and Nellie Marie Thomas. He departed this life on December 3, 2018.

He resided in Bardwell, Kentucky until 1938 when he moved to Mayfield, KY. He attended Dunbar School and worked at the Hall Hotel. At age 18, he moved to Pontiac, Michigan and worked in a car machine shop. After the death of a brother in World War II, he returned to Mayfield to help care for his mother. He worked as a supervisor at the pottery and was employed at Junior Anderson’s Service Station for twenty-five years. After retirement, he went into business for himself and was proprietor of Homer’s Super Car Wash, which earned him a Business of the Year Black History Award. In 2008, he retired permanently.

Homer was a faithful member of Smith Temple Presbyterian Church of Mayfield, KY.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters: Louise Moss and Shirley Edwards; three brothers: Warren, James and Eddie Thomas; a sister who died in service; his first wife, Elizabeth McCurry; and his second wife, Codell Dumas Thomas.

He leaves to cherish his memory, one son, Robert “Mose” Dumas of Mayfield; three daughters: Mable Brooks, Racine Owens, and Ethelene Moss Carman – all of Mayfield; his caregiver, Dorothea Moss; several loving grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services are Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 2:00pm at Mason Memorial Chapel, 420 Water Street, Mayfield KY, with visitation from 12:00pm until service time also at the funeral home. Burial at Peaceful Valley Cemetery in Mayfield, KY. Condolences may be left at www.masonbrothersfs.com
