Harvey Jasper Jr.

December 1, 1943 — February 13, 2021

Harvey Jasper, Jr. began his earthly life on December 1st, 1943 in Brewton, Alabama. He was the fourth of six children born to Harvey and Mattie Jasper. At an early age, Harvey accepted Christ as his Lord & Savior and joined Baptist Hill Missionary Baptist Church under Pastor Bryant. He departed this life on February 13th, 2021.
As a young child, he presented a “challenge” to his parents so he was sent to be raised by his Uncle Charlie, a strict disciplinarian, and Aunt Margree. There, he learned the importance of hard work and family values. He spoke often of the boyhood antics he enjoyed with his cousins.
Harvey, affectionately known as “Jasper,” graduated from Southern Normal School in Brewton, Alabama and later attended Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, Alabama. Later he joined the United States Army and was honorably discharged after several years.
Jasper moved to Hopkinsville, Kentucky where he worked as an insurance salesman for a short time. He then moved to Morganfield, Kentucky where he worked as an instructor with the Job Corp. It was during this time that he met the “love of his life,” the former Nancy Mason of Madisonville, Kentucky. Moments after seeing Nancy, he said “That’s the woman I’m going to marry.” They enjoyed 49 years of matrimony.
Jasper and Nancy moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1972 where he was a faithful member of the Historic Tanner Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church under the pastorage of Reverend Dr. Benjamin Thomas.
Black-owned business was always a passion of his. As such, he was the owner and operator of a Deer Valley Service Station and Jasper’s Towing Company for many years. He retired in 2007 from Sanderson Lincoln.
Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Mattie Jasper; a brother, Richard Jasper of Seattle, Washington, two sisters, Willia Jean Culliver and Ruby Dell Jasper, Uncle Charlie and Aunt Margree, all of Brewton, Alabama.
His life and memory is celebrated by his wife of 49 years, Nancy Mason Jasper; son, Tremaine Jasper and wife Kearya of Phoenix, Arizona; two daughters, Heather Jasper of Washington, DC and Paula Koger and husband Tony of Monroe, New Jersey; sister, Milliarstine Coleman of Sawyerville, Alabama; sister Louise Stallworth and husband James of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandson, Jamil Tavarus Jasper; granddaughters, Zara Grace LaBelle Jasper and Chakia Avant, great-granddaughter, Jemzi; aunt, Mary Agnes Humphrey of Brewton, Alabama, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends that he dearly loved.
Due to the COVID-19, a service will not be held. Harvey will be laid to rest in Madisonville, Kentucky. He may be gone from our sight, but never our hearts. He will truly be missed.

Psalm 39:4 “O Lord, make me know my end and what is the measure of my days; let me know how fleeting I am!” Psalm 48:14 “For this God is our God forever and ever; He will be our guide even to the end.” Psalm 116:15 “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.”
