Gertie Mae Ashby

Gertie Mae Ashby was a loving, dedicated and generous wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She was born in Hopkinsville, KY in 1925. She was the daughter of Gertrude Coleman. Gertie was raised by her mother and stepfather, Sunk Chester. She spent her childhood in Hopkinsville and Sebree, KY. During her teenage years in Sebree, KY, she met the love of her life, Howard Ashby. They became husband and wife on July 26, 1941. Their union produced three sons and a daughter.

Gertie was a great cook and loved to bake. She was well known for her cakes and pies. She was a faithful and devoted member of St. John’s Catholic Church for over 50 years.

Gertie was an extremely proud and loving grandmother. The highlight of her life was visits from her grandchildren.

Gertie Mae Ashby passed away on November 3, 2015. Preceding her in death was her husband of 54 years, Howard Ashby; son, James Howard Ashby; and daughter, Wynetta Ashby.

She leaves behind, sons: Fred (Mary) and Lee Von (Diane); five grandchildren: James, Kimberly (James) MacColeman, Sandra, Lee Von II, and Danielle; two great grandchildren: Aidan and Liam MacColeman; and an extended family of cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins.
