Flora Elizabeth Jackson

Flora Elizabeth Powell Jackson went home to be with her Lord January 26, 2021. She was born July 16, 1923 in Corydon, Kentucky, the fourth child born to the union of Henry and Ethel Powell. Flora accepted the Lord at an early age attending St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Corydon until the family moved to Henderson. There, she attended First Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorage of Rev. Gilles. She attended Corydon Elementary School and graduated from Douglass High School.

As a young adult during WWII, she was employed with the Chrysler Corporation of Evansville, In. On December 24, 1946, Flora was united in marriage to Charles Edward Jackson by the Rev. Harry Walker. To this union six children were born. Flora was a member of her church adult choir and a lifelong member of the Mother’s Board. She was a great cook and baker who would attempt any recipe and would be successful on the first try. She also possessed a powerful “green thumb” by which she could make all plants grow profusely.

Flora was preceded in death by her husband: Charles Edward Jackson, Sr.; three sons: Charles Edward, Jr., Carl Lynn, and Clifford Louis: her mother and father: Ethel and Henry Powell; sisters: Ruth Waggoner, Willie Mae Swope, and La Jessie Moore; and great grandson: Rowan Petrie.

Survivors include: Charles Reginald (Reggie) Jackson and wife Patricia, Valerie Elizabeth Burrus, and Christopher Henry Jackson and wife Melbia; six grandchildren: Nai Jackson-Tyus (Twaka), Jamaal Jackson (Emily), LaToya Burrus, Anthony Burrus, Marissa Rhoad (Josh), and Dmitri Jackson; great-grandchildren: Sanaa Jackson, Demitri Willett, Alyashia Burrus, Anthony Burrus, Jr., Judah Rhoad, Micah Rhoad, Gideon Rhoad, and step-grandchild: Kay Woods; sisters-in-law: Nellie Turner and Pearl Turner; and a host of nieces and nephews.
