Carolyn Sue Springer

Carolyn Sue (Brown) Springer, the fifth child born to Charles General, Jr. and Ruth Luvenia (Hart) Brown on July 27, 1943, departed this life on September 1, 2020.
Carolyn, known as “Sue” to her family and close friends, attended
Chestnut-Walnut Elementary and Lincoln High Schools in Evansville. In 1960, she moved to Indianapolis, Indiana with her family. Carolyn Sue was united in marriage with George Harris Springer, Jr., on November 27, 1961 in Muncie, Indiana. This union produced two sons and a daughter: Terrance Eugene, Demetria Kay, and George Nathan. Due to an illness, George, Jr. departed this life on Tuesday, October 8, 1968. Carolyn raised her children as a single mom with help from her immediate family.
Carolyn received her high school diploma at a ceremony held at the Carver
Community Center in Evansville with presentations by Mr. Harold Mundy, Director.
She received awards for attendance and continuity of effort as a graduate of the Neighborhood Leadership Institute. She attended the University of Evansville, Indiana State of Bloomington, and Stewart’s Beauty College. She was a licensed Cosmetologist and shared a business with her late husband George in a Beauty and Record shop in Muncie, Indiana. She was a social worker for 10 years with CAPE (Community Action Program of Evansville), worked 5 years with Planned Parenthood, and 5 years with Dr. and Mrs. Cola King Newsome in Evansville. She worked proudly as an activist with the Housing Authority of Evansville resident council.
She loved the Lord and sang alto in the McFarland Missionary Baptist Church choir while playing the tambourine.
She was preceded in death by her late husband, George H. Springer, Jr,;
brother, Robert Allen Brown; sister, Judith Ann Harrod; and parents, Charles G. Brown, Jr. and Ruth H. Brown.
She leaves to cherish her memory children: Terrance, Demetria, and George
Nathan; two brothers: Charles G. Brown, III and Reginald R. Brown; four sisters: Luvenia I. Rouse, Mary E. Meriwether, Shirley E. Willingham, and Virginia E. Lee; three granddaughters: Denise N. Madison, Summer S. (Luke) Morgan, and Ronesha Melvin; ten great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday 12, 2020 at R. Mason Brothers Memorial Chapel, Evansville, IN. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Due to Covid-19, face masks/coverings will be required and social distancing will be practiced.
