Calvin Ruby Jr.

Calvin Ruby, Jr., 76, transitioned from earth to eternity on June 2, 2021, at the Lucy Smith Care Center. He was born in Dixon, KY to Calvin Ruby, Sr. and Rose Miller Swann. Calvin attended Douglas High School and went on to work for Alcan Aluminum for 30 years until he retired. He was a member of Seventh St. Baptist Church.

Calvin was a family man who early in life demonstrated his love for his family by dropping out of high school to go to work and help his mother support the family. Calvin took special care to look after his two sisters. He bought their school clothes and anything else they needed. He enjoyed looking after his nieces and nephews with money for their birthdays every year. His generosity extended beyond the family through his donations to the church when needed and his help for anybody in need. Calvin was just a great guy who will be missed by all who knew him.

When Calvin wanted to relax, he loved to watch western movies and television shows. He also enjoyed watching sports on tv. When UK was playing, Calvin ordered himself a pizza, and told everybody “ Don’t bother me or call me because I’m watching UK.”

In addition to his parents, Calvin is preceded in death by his brother: Bobby Joe Ruby; and his special love: Mary Potts.

Calvin leaves to cherish his memory, 2 sisters: Willie Lee Ruby, Sue Lenora Ruby; 2 daughters who he raised and loved as his own: Tamara R. Potts, Linda Haygan; granddaughter: Mariesha Potts; nieces & nephews: Lashawn Ruby, Tabrisha Ruby, Isaiah Ruby, Michael Ruby, Justice Thomas, Dayzohn Cunningham; great-nephews: Eli Ruby, Izen Stevenson, Kei Arie Armstead; and a host of cousins and friends.
